Postgraduate study options
Our postgraduate programmes are designed to take students to the cutting edge of their discipline. Postgraduate courses are taught by research-active staff who also supervise student self-directed projects, dissertations and theses.
Each year a proportion of Stage III students choose to move on to postgraduate studies. Students making this choice are often driven by the desire to participate in research and to ultimately gain entry to a PhD.
In an increasingly competitive job market the completion of a postgraduate programme is also a useful career move. We have got BSc(Hons), PGDipSci and research MSc programmes available.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Science is a one-year full-time programme which may also be taken part-time over up to four years. Students entering this programme must have an approved BSc, BE or equivalent degree and also require a satisfactory level of competency in the subject area of the diploma.
The diploma provides the opportunity to acquire a postgraduate qualification in Marine Science. Students complete 120 points of 600 or 700 level courses, which may include a dissertation. Students who have completed a PGDipSci may apply for entry to a one-year MSc.
